Unmasking Superwoman: My WRIC News Segment on Black Women and Mental Health

I had the chance to sit down with Autumn Childress on WRIC News for a powerful conversation about something that’s been heavy on my heart for a while. The segment was called “Unmasking Superwoman: A Vulnerable Conversation About Black Women and Mental Health.”

Let me tell you, this wasn’t your average interview. It was real. It was raw. It was necessary.

I was joined by two amazing women, Ashley Williams (www.iamashleywilliams.com)  and Danisha Smith (www.emboided-culture.com) , and together we talked about what it really means to be a Black woman who’s expected to be strong all the time. We talked about the weight of always having to push through, the unspoken stress we carry, and how so many of us feel like we can’t afford to rest or even breathe sometimes.

What hit me the most was how familiar it all felt. So many of us have worn “the mask”. We smile. We show up. We take care of everybody else. And then we crash when no one’s looking.

This segment reminded me why I do what I do. Whether it’s through coaching, prayer, workshops, or just a safe conversation, I want women to know they don’t have to do it all. God never asked us to be superhuman. He asked us to be whole.

So if you’ve ever felt like you’re carrying too much, or like your strength has become your only identity, please take a moment to watch this segment. I really believe it will speak to your soul.

I’m so grateful to Autumn for opening this space, and to Ashley and Danisha for showing up with such honesty. This is the kind of dialogue we need more of.

To every woman reading this, I see you. You don’t have to carry it all alone. Rest is not weakness. Vulnerability is strength. And healing is always possible.

Let’s keep having these conversations. Let’s keep unmasking together.
